RECLAIMING THE DISTILLING HERITAGE OF DONEGAL
Our first Distillery, An Dúlamán Gin Distillery, sits to the west of Sliabh Liag where the Abhainn Bhuí (pronounced Owenwee and meaning yellow river) and Glen rivers meet and flow into Teelin Bay. The site of the new Sliabh Liag Distillery (construction in 2019) sits further up the Abhainn Bhuí in the shadow of Sliabh Liag looking across Donegal Bay to Sligo beyond.
The distillery for An Dúlamán was established in 2017 just outside the village of Carrick, Co. Donegal, where the Abhainn Bhuí and Glen rivers flow into Teelin bay at the foot of Sliabh Liag.
At the distillery’s core is our 500 litre hand-beaten copper still from Forsyths of Scotland. Moira named her Méabh (phonetically may–ve) and her name means “she who intoxicates” and sometimes “bringer of great joy”. Méabh has her idiosyncrasies and we have found her at her most benevolent when we distil slowly and at an unusually low ABV.
This is a working artisan distillery and everything is done on site including the hand-bottling. The site accommodates the company’s administration and storage. You are very welcome to visit.
